Heart bypass Travel Insurance is designed to help you travel with confidence after surgery. If you’ve had a heart bypass, having the right Travel Insurance in place means you’re protected against unexpected medical emergencies while abroad, helping you avoid costly medical bills and unnecessary stress during your trip.
At AllClear, we specialise in Travel Insurance for people living with pre-existing medical conditions, including those who have had a heart bypass. We understand that everyone’s health journey is different, which is why we focus on providing tailored cover that suits your individual needs, so you can enjoy your holiday with peace of mind.
What is Travel Insurance for a heart bypass?
Travel Insurance for Heart Bypass is specialist medical cover designed for people who have had coronary artery bypass surgery and want to travel safely after recovery. It protects you against the high cost of medical emergencies related to your heart condition, as well as other common travel issues such as cancellations, delays, and lost or stolen medication.
If you’ve had heart bypass surgery, you may be at increased risk of complications such as chest pain, irregular heart rhythms, or shortness of breath while abroad. Standard travel policies often exclude these risks, which is why dedicated Travel Insurance is so important. It covers emergency medical treatment, hospital stays, and, if necessary, medical repatriation back to the UK.
At AllClear, we specialise in Travel Insurance for pre-existing heart conditions, including bypass surgery, stents, and angioplasty. Our simple medical screening process helps us tailor your policy to your health needs and travel plans, so you can explore the world again with confidence and full protection.
Can you get Travel Insurance after a heart bypass?
Yes, you can get Travel Insurance after a heart bypass (CABG).
Having a heart bypass is considered a pre-existing medical condition, which means you’ll need to declare it when applying for Travel Insurance. Once declared, we can assess your individual situation and offer cover that reflects your health and travel plans.
Specialist providers like AllClear focus on helping people living with medical conditions access the cover they need. Rather than excluding your condition, we look at your full medical history and offer tailored options, so you can travel with confidence and peace of mind.
What you’ll typically need to do:
- Declare your heart bypass during the medical screening process
- Answer a few simple questions about your recovery, treatment, and any related conditions
- Provide details of any medication you’re taking
Standard policies may not include cover for heart-related conditions. Without the right policy in place, you could be left paying for emergency treatment abroad yourself, which can be extremely expensive.
With specialist Travel Insurance, you can be covered for:
- Emergency medical treatment related to your heart condition
- Repatriation back to the UK if needed
- Trip cancellation or cutting your holiday short due to health issues
At AllClear, we believe having a medical condition shouldn’t stop you from exploring the world. By declaring your heart bypass and choosing the right policy, you can focus on enjoying your trip, not worrying about the “what ifs.”
Why do people need Travel Insurance after a heart bypass?
After a heart bypass, you may still be at risk of heart-related issues such as chest pain, arrhythmias, or complications linked to your condition, especially when travelling.
- Around 7.6 million people in the UK live with heart and circulatory diseases, according to the British Heart Foundation
- Cardiovascular diseases are the leading cause of death globally and a major contributor to hospital admissions worldwide
This means there’s a higher chance you could need medical attention while you’re abroad, making specialist Travel Insurance essential.
Healthcare costs can vary hugely depending on your destination, and without Travel Insurance, you’d need to pay these yourself.
- A heart-related hospital stay in the USA can cost tens of thousands of pounds
- Even in Europe, emergency treatment and repatriation can cost thousands of pounds
Travel Insurance helps cover these unexpected costs, including emergency treatment and getting you safely home if needed. If you need to return to the UK for treatment, the costs can quickly escalate. Medical repatriation can cost £100,000+, depending on location and medical needs. Without the right cover, this is a financial risk most travellers wouldn’t want to take.
Did you know your risk of cancelling a trip can be higher if you’re living with a heart condition? Your health can change unexpectedly after having a heart bypass, which could affect your ability to travel. Cancellation is one of the most common reasons people claim on their Travel Insurance, often due to unexpected illness. With Travel Insurance, you can recover costs if you need to cancel or cut your trip short due to your condition.
Ultimately, it isn’t just about financial protection; it’s about reassurance.
With the right policy in place, you know:
- You’ll be supported if something goes wrong
- Your medical needs are accounted for
- You can focus on enjoying your trip
At AllClear, we specialise in helping people with pre-existing medical conditions get the cover they need, so having a heart bypass doesn’t have to stop you from travelling.

Do you need to declare a heart bypass on your Travel Insurance?
Yes, you do need to declare a heart bypass when applying for Travel Insurance. This allows us to understand your health history and provide the right level of cover for your trip.
Why declaring your heart bypass matters:
- Ensures your policy is valid. If you don’t declare it, you risk your claim being rejected
- Gives you the right protection, including cover for heart-related emergencies
- Helps tailor your policy so it reflects your current health and any related conditions
What you may be asked:
- When you had your heart bypass surgery
- Whether you’ve had any recent symptoms or follow-up treatment
- Details of any medication you’re taking
- Whether you have any other heart or related conditions
We understand that travelling after a heart bypass can feel daunting. That’s why we make it simple to declare your condition and get Travel Insurance that suits your needs.
Flying after heart bypass surgery
You will need to speak to your GP after surgery to ensure it’s safe for you to fly once you’ve made a full recovery. Once you’ve been given the all-clear, it’s important to take appropriate precautions to make sure you can travel as safely and as comfortably as possible to your destination.
Plan out your trip a few weeks in advance, keeping in mind that although you may have fully recovered, it’s still important to take it easy.
For your own comfort, it might be best to arrange an aisle seat and priority boarding so that you are able to board the plane without having to fight the crowds. Having an aisle seat means you’ll be able to easily walk around the plane during the flight.
Getting up and walking around on a flight is especially important after heart bypass surgery, as you may be more susceptible to Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT). Wearing in-flight compression stockings is also advised to reduce the risk of DVT.
