Having an arrhythmia doesn’t just affect your day-to-day life; it can also change how you think about travelling. If your symptoms are occasional or more persistent, it’s natural to want reassurance that you’re protected if something happens while you’re away.
That’s where specialist Arrhythmia Travel Insurance comes in. Instead of treating your condition as a complication, it’s taken into account through a medical screening process, so your policy reflects your individual health.
At AllClear, we understand that arrhythmias vary from person to person. By looking at your circumstances in detail, we aim to help you travel with greater confidence, so you can focus on your trip, not your condition.
What is Travel Insurance for arrhythmia?
Travel Insurance for arrhythmia is designed for people living with an irregular heartbeat who want to travel with confidence. Specialist policies can include protection for emergency medical treatment and cancellation, helping to reduce the financial risk if your condition affects your trip.
Arrhythmias, including conditions like atrial fibrillation, are common. According to Heart Research UK, more than 2 million people in the UK experience arrhythmia each year. While often manageable, an irregular heartbeat can sometimes lead to more serious complications, particularly when travelling.
Cardiovascular conditions are also one of the leading causes of hospital admissions in the UK, with over 100,000 hospital admissions each year due to heart attacks. If something similar were to happen abroad, the costs could be much higher, especially when you factor in emergency treatment and medical repatriation. Without the right Travel Insurance, these costs could fall to you.
That’s why it’s important to choose a policy that considers your condition. At AllClear, we specialise in Medical Travel Insurance for people with pre-existing medical conditions, assessing each application individually.
Comprehensive cover for all types of arrhythmia
We provide specialist cover for the full spectrum of heart rhythm disorders, so you can travel with peace of mind. Our medical experts understand that every arrhythmia is different, which is why we assess each case individually.
Common arrhythmia types we cover include:
- Atrial fibrillation (AFib)
- Atrial flutter
- Supraventricular tachycardia (SVT)
- Ventricular tachycardia
- Bradycardia
- Heart block
- Premature ventricular contractions (PVCs)
With our specialist underwriting, we focus on understanding the nuances of heart rhythm disorders and how they are managed. We recognise that with proper management, people living with arrhythmia can travel safely.
Your declared arrhythmia condition includes cover for related medications, treatments, and any complications that may arise from your specific heart rhythm disorder.
What your Arrhythmia Travel Insurance policy includes
Your Arrhythmia Travel Insurance provides extensive protection across multiple areas, making sure that you’re covered for both medical emergencies and travel disruptions. Here’s exactly what your policy includes across our three coverage levels.
-
What’s covered?
- Medical cover: AllClear policies include emergency medical cover, including arrhythmia and any other medical conditions you declare. This can include treatment for symptoms such as palpitations, dizziness or breathlessness, as well as necessary medical care abroad
- Cancellation and cutting your trip short: Cover for your flight and accommodation costs if you have to cancel before you go. We’ll also cover returning home early following an emergency
- Your baggage: Protection against the cost of stolen, damaged or lost luggage and personal possessions. You can also choose to add extra cover for gadgets to your policy
- Travel delays and missed departures: Delayed flight? We’ll compensate you for the time. We’ll also cover any resulting accommodation and transport costs
- Personal liability: Cover for your legal expenses and any liability due if you accidentally injure someone. You also have cover if you damage their property while you’re away on holiday
- All ages: We believe Travel Insurance should be available to as many people as possible. That’s why our policies have no upper age limit
-
What’s not covered?
- Deciding not to travel: We do not provide any cover if you can travel but choose not to
- Other regions: Your Arrhythmia Travel Insurance will not cover you if you travel beyond your chosen destination. You can contact us to upgrade your policy before you travel
- Claims below the value of excess: You’re not covered for claims that fall below the value of the excess stated in your policy
- Medical conditions you fail to declare: When you buy Travel Insurance, you need to provide us with an accurate medical history so we can give you the right cover. This is especially vital for senior travellers and those with long-term illnesses

“As you know, it’s bad enough having cardiomyopathy with arrhythmia, let alone without the added stress of trying to find suitable and affordable travel insurance. Tips for travelling with arrhythmia
Travelling with an arrhythmia may require a bit more planning, but with the right preparation, you can enjoy your trip with confidence.
- Check with your doctor before you travel – Always speak to your GP or cardiologist to confirm you’re fit to travel, especially if your symptoms have changed or you’ve had recent treatment
- Choose a destination that suits your condition – You know your body best, so think about how your arrhythmia affects you day to day. Some travellers prefer to avoid hilly destinations, long walking distances or accommodation with lots of stairs
- Consider the climate and altitude – Extreme heat, cold or high altitudes can affect your heart and trigger symptoms. If you’re unsure, ask your doctor which environments are best suited to your condition
- Carry your medication with you – Keep all medication in your hand luggage and bring extra in case of delays. It’s also helpful to carry a doctor’s letter explaining your condition and treatment
- Know how to manage your symptoms – If you experience an episode, techniques such as taking slow, deep breaths from your abdomen can sometimes help regulate your heart rhythm
- Keep emergency details accessible – Have important contacts to hand, including your Travel Insurance emergency helpline, your GP details and local emergency numbers at your destination
With a little preparation and the right support in place, travelling with arrhythmia can feel much more manageable, so you can focus on enjoying your time away.
